Dr. Basel Hussein Roshdy is currently the chairman and Managing Director of Nile Capital Holding for Financial Investments, a private equity group and direct investment platform for investing and projects development, established as the evolution and growth plan of the current Fund Manager IT Ventures Company of IT Investments, managing private equity funds and transactions including IT Investments (www.it-investment.com), which is the largest private-equity direct investment fund in technology (mainly ICT) in Egypt, the Middle East and North African region, with total committed capital of US$ 110 million, and total assets under management that exceeded US$ 450 million in various ICT companies in Egypt and abroad (Middle East, Europe, and the USA). Basel's areas of expertise are private equity, funds creation and management, new ventures development, mergers and acquisitions, and financial/investment advisory services, with diversified experiences in valuation studies and projects appraisals, restructuring plans, placement and investment memorandums for investors, financing agreements, risk assessment, deals negotiations, and promoting investment projects, including public-private partnerships (PPP) as well.
Basel has more than 24 years of professional experience in the investment and corporate finance sectors including 17 years with IT Ventures & IT Investments Group of companies and funds (Nile Capital now), whereby he witnessed and participated in the creation and evolution of the group's success stories and learning experiences. Basel has worked on a large number of investment cases, complicated deals structuring, mergers and acquisitions transactions, and new funds creation. He is also Director of the General Partner of Telecom Ventures Partners Luxembourg, a Fund focusing on equity investments in the telecom & technology sectors. Basel has worked before in banking sector – as Senior Lending & Project Finance Officer – whereby he handled long-term debt financing, syndicated loans, and equity participations in excess of US$ 200 million, and helped restructuring a number of financially distressed companies, and sale of companies under the privatization program. In addition, Basel has worked on syndication and equity participations in a number of infrastructure projects including real-estate developments, healthcare, industrial zones, telecom and data networks, and transportation. Before that, Basel was the Planning & Control Manager of a largely-diversified Saudi investment group. Basel has a doctoral degree in corporate finance and capital markets (in Securitization) from the American University of London & Maastricht School of Management, a professional diploma in Economics from London, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the American University in Cairo (AUC), and a Bachelor of Construction Engineering from AUC with minor in Business Administration.
Basel is a member of several local and international organizations, and serves on the board of directors of a number of operating and investment companies inside and outside Egypt. Also he acted before as finance and investment instructor/trainer. In addition, Basel has been a speaker and panelist in a number of conferences and seminars inside and outside Egypt; and has participated in several events, roundtables, seminars and workshops.
